A global study looking into the causes of stroke has shown that 1 in 11 survivors experienced a period of anger or upset in the one hour prior to having a stroke. The study also noted that 1 in 20 patients had done heavy physical exertion.
The research assessed stroke triggers as part of the global INTERSTROKE study, which analyzed 13,462 cases of acute stroke and included patients in 32 countries. Researchers noted that anger or emotional upset was associated with around 30% rise in the risk of stroke during the one hour following an episode. There was a greater increase if the patient had no history of depression. The likelihood was also higher for those with a lower level of education.
Heavy physical exertion was found to be tied to a 60% increase in the risk of intracerebral hemorrhage during the one hour following the exertion episode. The findings are published in the European Heart Journal… (HT – ANI, December 3, 2021)
